ROAD TO KIOREROA
HARBOUR BOARD'S PLAN FAVOURABLE COMMENT [from oub own correspondent] WHANGAREI. Tuesday A plan of a practical road route from Whangarea to Kioreroa, which has been approved by the Whangarei Harbour Board, was received from the board at last evening's meeting of the Whangarei Borough Council. This is an alternative to the road as laid off within the borough via the railway and Hoey's western orchard to Kioreroa. A letter stated that the board was prepared, without cost to the borough council, to legalise the route as a public road up to the borough boundary if the line was acceptable to the council.
Mr. J. G. Barclay considered the suggested road an excellent one and if it had been before the council some months ago it would have saved a lot of discussion. From the information available the road would cost the borough less than half the cost of another of the routes suggested. Mr. T. Mitchell said this latest proposal of the Harbour Board was full of merit.
The Mayor, Mr. W. Jones, said the proper course was for the special committee, already appointed, to consider this latest proposal in conjunction with other proposals. The road proposed by the Harbour Board was quite a feasible one and one he investigated with the late Mr. D. A. McLean when he was Mayor some 10 years ago.
It was decided to refer tho matter to the special committee, which was given power to interview Harbour Board representatives.
