MOUNT EDEN DRAINAGE
SUBSI DY «. PLAN POSSIBLE LANDSCAPE ROAD RATING The fact that there would be no difficulty in obtaining a subsidy from tho Unemployment Board for drainage works' under a standard pay scheme in the Mount Eden Borough was mentioned at last evening's meeting of tho Borough Council by Mr. R, J. Mills. He said that Mr. J. S. Jessep, deputy-chairman of the board, had told him a subsidy would be available under a scheme similar to that undertaken by the Mount Albert Borough. Tho Works Committee was recommended to consider the matter of drainage at an early date. A request that tho proposal of the council when striking next year s rates to bring all that part of the borough in the vicinity of Landscape Road which formerly was rated separately into line with the rest of the borough should not bo carried out without full inquiry was made in a letter*from ratepayers concerned. They pointed out they purchased the properties owing to the rates being low, and said they considered it would be a breach of the agreement by which the rateable land was acquired if the increase were made. It was decided that a reply should be drafted and submitted to the council.
It was reported that the levelling of tho proposed playground in Normanby Road was finished.
