THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE QUIET "DEMAND MAINTAINED A quiet demand for leading investment issues was maintained on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday and only average business was recorded. Support for Government loans was unchanged, a sale taking place in tho 1955 4 per cent bonds at £lOl 17s 6d, a rise of 2s 6d. Holders of banks tended to lower their limits. Commercials were done unchanged at l<s od and more were available at the price. There was a firmer inquiry for English, Scottish and Australian in response to a concession by sellers and Nationals of New Zealand were also sought at a higher rate. 1 he demand was easier for New South Wales in spite of a pending dividend payment. In the insurance group a sale of New Zealands 6d lower at 56s reflected the easier tone of the market. The recent downward movement in Colonial Sugars has been checked and a parcel was accepted 5s dearer at £63 2s 6d. Buyers lifted their limits for British Tobacco, which changed hands Is higher at 38s. After an interval of two years, Westport-Stockton Coal sold at Is 3d, a rise of 9d. GoldsbroughMort were available at a cheaper rate and business passed at 32s and 32s Sd, a fall on the day of 7d. The decline in Farmers' Trading was carried further with a transaction- 5d lower at 4s 6d. In mining, Waihi Junctions were done unchanged at 4s lOd and Mount Lyells 2d higher at 24s 9d. King Solomon and Okaritos appreciated ou sale.
