AERIAL TORPEDOES

USE BY THE NAVY SUCCESS OF LATEST TYPE LONDON, Jan. 11 The Times, in laying stress on the value the Admiralty places on torpedo attack from the air, in tests concerning which a high measure of success has been achieved, says that 14 Black-burn-Baffin torpedo bombing aeroplanes of the latest type are being shipped to the Mediterranean for the aircraftcarrier Glorious to replace aeroplanes of the Ripon type. The new bombers are sturdily built, enabling them to land on a deck. They possess a range of 450 miles. They have a speed of 136 miles an hour, and are able to dive from - a of several thousand feet until within 50 feet of the water and 500 yards from the target, when they launch torpedoes with most deadly effect.
