ARGENTINE PROVINCE MANY DEATHS FEARED DESTRUCTION OF VILLAGES MELTED SNOW THE CAUSE By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received January 12, 5.35 p.m.) BUENOS AIRES, Jan. 11 It is feared that several scores of people have been drowned in the worst catastrophe in the history of the Mendoza Province. A wall of water, 125 ft. deep, due to unseasonably melted snows, overflowed from the Mendoza River, roared through the Andes valleys, destroying or isolating 11 villages.
Seventeen bodies have been recovered so far. Many others were borne down-stream.
The damage to property is estimated at 3,000,000 dollars.
