BULL RUNS WILD
THRILLING INCIDENTS MAN CHASED UP POLE Reports reaching officials ' at' th« Town Hall at Brunswick, Melbourne, lately, that a wild bull was loose in Brunswick Road, causing great alarm to many people in that thoroughfare, the ranger, Mr. W. Elson, the by-lawa officer, Mr. J. F. Hallion, and Constable Hauser set out in a motor-car. ■ The bull was furiously rushing at motor-cars on the road when the officials reached the scene. As soon as it caught sight of the constable and the two civic officers the animal made 'a charge at thein, and one of them had to jump over a -fence to escape. Meanwhile the movements of the bull had had a terrifying efFect on a number of people. A woman on the foo.tpath got clear of the bull only by scrambling over a fence. horseman with a whip tried to turn the animal back, and the bull brought itself up against a stationary motor-car. One man at whom the beast made a mad rush escaped injury only by climbing up. a pole in the street.
Another man, lifting up a large piece of asphalt with both, hands, hurled it at the bull. The missile, striking tho animal on the head, fell into fragments. The blow brought the bull to a momentary halt. It then made a charge at the man/who had to dash into a lane to avoid being run-down by the beast. Eventually the bull was turned by a number of men and driven into an enclosure.
