JACKIE COOGAN
RETURN TO THE SCREEN SERIES OF COLLEGE PICTURES Jackie Coogan is returning to importance in films. He is not coming back to one of Hollywood's major studios. He is to stage his return attempt via the independent film corporations in a series of college pictures made on week-ends, and doubtless made quite economically. In his prime—and in Hollywood only could a boy of 17 be considered beyond his screen "prime"—he was backgrounded by the finest sets, expert makeup, best scenario writers and cameramen the colony could produce. To-day he will show what he can do under far different conditions. Time and money must be saved in independent films." So Jackie will have to depend on his personality largely. The cards are stacked against his return to popularity. The young generation fights ferociously for its place in the Kleig lights. And. Jackie Coogan—erstwhile Hollywood star—will have to* fight hard tor* overcome the handicaps of several years away from his public, the studios and the ways of picture making.
