OBITUARY

MR. HARRY SHAW

VETERAN RETURNED SOLDIER One of the oldest ex-members of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, Mr. Harry Shaw, died in Wellington on Friday, aged 69. Mr. Shaw was born in England and came to New Zealand as a boy. He was an original member of the Wellington Torpedo Corps. Later he served for several years as an engineer with the Devonport Steam Ferry Company, and while in Auckland was connected with the Torpedo Corps at Devonport. When over 50 years of age Mr. Shaw onlisted for active service and left New Zealand with the 11th Reinforcements. After his return he was for some time in the employ of General Motors (N.Z.), Limited, as an engineer, and later of the C. and A. Odlin Company, Limited. However, the strain of active service had seriously affected his health, and eventually brought about a long illness which resulted in his death. Mr. Shaw had many friends, particularly among boating men in Wellington, and was well known as a constructor of small pleasure craft and models. He is survived by Mrs. Shaw and one son, Mr. Alexander Shaw, of Auckland. i —— MR. R. S. H. LOVE [from our OWN" correspondent] TE AROHA, Saturday The death has occurred in the Waiknto Hospital of Mr. Robert Stewart Harrison Love, aged 33, manager in Te Aroha for the Farmers' Trading Company. He was most popular with all sections of the community and was a prominent worker for the Presbyterian Church. He was always willing to serve in any cause for the public good. Mr. Love leaves a widow and an infant son. MR. DAVID M. ROSS [RY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] GISBORNE, Saturday The death occurred suddenly to-day of Mr. David INI. Ross, formerly a stock inspector and latterly a well-known racehorse owijer. He was the author of much well reviewed poetry under the pen-name of "Darius." He was a brother of the late Mr. Malcolm Ross, a well-known Wellington journalist.
