POSITION DEEMED URGENT DOMINIONS' AID SOUGHT GENEVA, Oct. fi The sub-committee set up by the League of Nations, which is considering the position of Jewish refugees, has decided that the matter is urgent and can be solved only by international co-operation. It has recommended the appointment of a High Commissioner with full freedom of action, and it has suggested also that the League advance a sum of money for immediate needs. It has appealed to every Government to facilitate the employment of refugees. A further suggestion is that Sir Austen Chamberlain should act as the High Commissioner to deal with the problem. Viscount Cecil was offered the post, but he suggested Sir Austen, A message from London says Canada has intimated that it is not able to accept an obligation to receive refugee Jewish immigrants. Australia and NewZealand so far are silent on the subject.
