REICHSTAG FIRE
SCENES AT THE TRIAL BULGARIAN'S DEFENCE (Received October 8. 5.5 p.m.) LEIPZIG, Oct. 7 The trial was resumed to-day of the Dutchman Van der Lubbe, Torgler, a former Communist deputy, and three Bulgarians Popoff, Dimitroff and Tancff, on charges of high treason arising out of the burning of the Reichstag on the night of February 27.
Pleading imperfect knowledge of the German language and saying he had no desire to insult anybody Dimitroff, who had been expelled from the Court yesterday, was readmitted to-day. Ho asserted that even though lie was a Communist he had the right to defend himself and expect the Court's questions to be quietly objectively submitted.
At yesterday's proceedings the irrepressible Dimitroff had considerably embarrassed the Court by exposing discrepancies in a marked plan of the Reichstag supposed to have been found in his room. He declared he had never seen the plan. He was then sent from the Court.
Van der Lubbe also denied any knowledge of the plan.
