TRAINING COLLEGE

OLD ENGLISH DANCES To encourage an interest in tho performance of old English country dances, an open invitation to attend a dance afternoon at tho college on Saturday was extended by tho principal of the Auckland Training College, Air. D. M. Rao. In England there has been a great revival of interest in this form of dancing and performances are x held in the summer months in various parts of the country and in the parks in London. That this interest already has made itself felt in Auckland was shown by tho fact that over JOO people accepted tho invitation and took part in the proceedings, which wore organised by Miss A. Kennedy and Miss Molly Searle. Tho dancing took placo on the lawn and many picturesque and graceful old country dances wore performed, beginning with Helston Surry and ending with Sellinger's Round. Other dances, some of which had most attractive names, were: —Gathering Peascods, Indian Queen, Unity Tufty, Old Mole, Newcastle, Picking Up Sticks, Jenny Pluck Pears, Child Grove, Hev, Bovs!' Sweet Cake, Fine Companion, Hunsdon House, If All tho World Were Paper, and Black Mag. It is planned to follow up the afternoon with another in two or ihreo weeks time so encouraging was the interest shown in tho dances.
