TAURANGA NEWS

The opening of the Ta\iranga Bowling Club in perfect weather provided a very pleasant social occasion for a large gathering of lady visitors, some of whom had come from Rotorua and other districts for the day. Mrs. C. F. Washer, wife of the president, performed the opening ceremony, placing the jack in a good position and trailing the first bowl to the accompaniment of much applause. Later Mrs. Washer and a committee of ladies served afternoon tea. Ladies assisting included: Mrs. Whiting, Mrs. 8011, Mrs. Lewis, Mrs. Crowley, Mrs. J. Guinness, Mrs. Collard, Mrs. Norris, Mrs. Foster, Mrs. Hare, Mrs. Woollams and Miss Hine. Among other visitors on the green were Mrs. Doughty, Mrs. McKerrow (Dunedin), Mrs. Perriman (Dunedin), Mrs. Russell, Mrs.' Wratten, Mrs. Phillips, Mrs. Keene, Mrs. Ellis. Mrs. J. S. Thompson, Mrs. Sinclair, Mrs. J. W. Smith, Mrs. Ross Clarke, Mrs. Carew and Miss McKenzie. The Women's Division of the Farmers' Union gave a very successful fancydress social in tho Hairini Hall. Excellent music was provided by Mr. B. Kempster's orchestra. Judging of the costumes was very efficiently carried out by Mrs. A. Skinner, and resulted in prizes being awarded to Mrs. Munro and Miss M. McKenna, for most original costumes, and to Mr. and Mrs. Judd, for tho best fancy costumes. Mrs. Charles Washer, of Herne Bay, who has been spending a holiday with relatives in Tauranga, has returned to Auckland. Mrs. J. K. Lowe is visiting Auckland. Mrs. E. T. Baker has.left on a holiday trip to Napier. Mrs. W. Griffiths, of Mount Mamiganui, is spending a holiday in the Cold Lakes district in tho South Island. Mrs. M. P. Munro has left on a trip to Auckland, and will visit Rotorua before returning home. Miss Bonar Miller, of Khandallali, Wellington, is tho guest of Mrs. Saxon Tollemache, of " Robin Hill."
