CHILLED BEEF TRADE
QUEENSLAND SHIPMENTS
REGULAR EXPORT POSSIBLE If arrangements can bo made with shipping companies, regular shipments of chilled beef are to bo sent from Queensland to England, and tho first shipment will be made early in the row year, according to the annual report of the Queensland Meat Industry Board. The board is negotiating with the shipping companies for a weekly servico of 45 days from Brisbane to England, and provision for hanging beef in reasonably gas-tight chambers. Experiments by the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research indicated that chilled beef could be landed in uniformly good condition after a \oyago of 45 days. Tho board is arranging for tho preparation each week of 3000 to 4000 quarters, but considers it likely that a safe trade can only bo built up by the employment of carbon dioxide, given strictly hygienic treatment at tho works. In order to . establish continuity of shipments the report recommends a regular service from Brisbane via the southern route, but during the working season at tho central and northern works, it states, some boats should make Brisbano the first loading port in Queensland, and go to England via Torres Strait. v
