BOMB OUTRAGES
BED TOSSED INTO AIR MAN AND WIFE UNHURT TWO MEN SLIGHTLY INJURED A bomb explosion occurred at Townsvi lie, Queensland, at the home of the Crown Solicitor, Mr. J. P. Qtiinn, about 2 o'clock on the morning of Septcmber '-0. The bomb had evidently been placed under the balcony on which Mr. Quinn and his wife were sleeping. The bed was tossed into the air and broken, but the occupants escaped serious injury. The sound of the explosion was heard two miles away. indications are that perpetrators of the outrage gained access by jumping over a fence from a neighbouring yard, whence a i'uso not less than >SO feet in length was lighted. They thus avoided three Airedale dogs which were in kennels under the house. The circumstances suggested that the explosion had been carefully planned. A burncd-out fuse found by detectives was of a type which takes from five to eight minutes for the spark to reach the bomb.
The explosion, following recent bomb outrages at Townsville, caused much public concern. A bomb, apparently consisting oi gelignite, was exploded under the iloor of a rear room in a building at Tully, Queensland, on the evening of September 22. Two Greeks, J. Constantino and Chris. Christian, were slightly injured. Several men were in the room at the time. Constantino was standing on a place directly above the bomb, and the explosion hurled him several feet in the air. it tore up the floor and pierced two sheets of iron on the roof. This is the third bomb outrage perpetrated at Tully.
