USE OF TERM " FERRY " . [bt telegraph—PßESS association] WELLINGTON, Saturday In regard to the use of the word "ferry" in connection with the Lyttelton boat service, a Union Company official stated to-day that the company did not use the term "ferry service." Reference to the monthly pocket guide would show that the service was described as an express service between Wellington and Lyttelton. This had remained unaltered in that publication for tho last 19 years.
In spite of the passage of time, said tho official, the title "express service" had made no headway, and it did not appear that anything better was in sight. He admitted that members of the Union Company's staff lapsed into the expression "ferry." While conscious of the weakness in the generally accepted title, he thought it couid be mildly justified and quoted the Oxford dictionary as stating: "Ferry: To pass to and fro over a river, canal or strait."
