TAXING SMALL INCOMES
Sir, —It is inconceivable to me and I consider most unjust, when people have a mere pittance to exist upon, that those in authority should say, "Oh, you have too much money, thercioro you must live on less." Those poor people are being brought slowly to beggary. 1 know of people who have incomes of under £2 per week and they have to pay a tax of 25s per quarter out of that small amount, besides paying rates, and insurance and paying for their dailv bread and clothing. One cannot help thinking of the story in the Bible of Lazarus the beggar full ot sores at the rich man's gate. The beggar died, and in heaven received comfort and rest. Not so the rich man, as all arc aware who have read the stoiy. Fair Play.
