DANGEROUS CROSSING

RAILWAY AT KAMO WARNING DEVICE WANTED [from our own correspondent] WHANGAREI, Saturday At a meeting last evening of the Whangarei Chamber of Commerce a letter was received from the general manager of railways concerning the chamber's request that a warning device be installed on the Kamo Rojid crossing. The general manager stated that after careful consideration he regretted he could not favourably consider the matter at present. He added that there were a number of level crossings throughout the Dominion where the need for warning devices was much more pressing, but lack of funds prevented the installation of such devices. Mr. J. G. Barclay said he thought the Kamo crossing held probably a record for accidents, and he considered action should be taken by the other local bodies in the district. He moved that the local bodies be invited to cooperate and that the Minister of Railways be approached on the matter. He said the large volume of traffic at that point constituted the main danger of the crossing. The motion was carried.
