DRY SPELL BROKEN

RAIN AT CAMBRIDGE WELCOMED 3Y FARMERS BENEFIT TO DAIRYING [from our own correspondent] CAMBRIDGE, Sunday After one of the longest dry spells during this time of the year experienced for a great many years welcome rain commenced to fall early this morning. The warm rain continued steadily throughout the morning. The weather was showery this afternoon and conditions indicate further rain. The fall today, about half an inch, is welcomed by all and by the farmers especially. The position, was becoming serious in its reflection upon dairying. The district could well do with a 21 hours' downpour. FALL IN AUCKLAND GARDENS REFRESHED After a week of warm, sunny conditions, wet weather prevailed yesterday, and gardens and pastures were refreshed considerably. Rain commenced to fall in the early morning, and throughout the day and evening frequent showers were experienced, the sky being overcast and the wind light and variable. The showers were not very heavy, but the rain was sufficient to soak into the surface of the soil in gardens, which had become hardened and parched by the hot sunshine and the warm drying winds. In the evening the rain was almost continuous. The area in which the rain fell in the Auckland province was extensive. A report from Whangarei stated that rain was being experienced there last evening for the first time for three weeks. Light rain was also experienced all day yesterday at all places as far south as Huntly.
