SANCTUARY IN PORT

BYRD'S SUPPLY SHIP WARNINGS OF A STORM (Received October G, 6.55 p.m.) NEW YORK, Oct. 5 Rear-Admiral Byrd's supply ship, the Bear, was reported to be in distress today off the treacherous Frying Pan shoals, on the North Carolina coast. The explorer is not on board. The Bear was towed into Southport late this evening by the tug Blanche, which had answered her call for aid. It was explained that the captain desired to make port on account of storm warning along the coast. The condition of the vessel is satisfactory.
