OLD STATION SITE
LAND TO GIVE ACCESS OFFERS MADE TO FIRMS TERMS OF CITY COUNCIL The amounts which it is prepared to offer for tho land and buildings required for the widening of streets to givo access to tho old station sito were fixed by the City Council at its meeting last evening. It was reported by tho Mayor, Mr. G. W. Hutchison, that ho had conferred with representatives of Duthio, Bridson and Company, Limited, whoso premises in Customs Street East it was proposed to acquire. It had been decided in consultation with officers of the council to offer tho company, as lessees of tho property, £9720 for their interest, but it was agreed that no additional sum should bo offered for disturbance of business. This proposal was approved by tlu» council. In connection with tho taking over of the premises of Mr. J. C. Spedding in Quay Street, it was reported that Mr. Spedding was prepared to stay on as tenant of part of tho building, subject to thrpo months' notico and pay 5 per cent on the amount of compensation ho received. His claim for disturbance of business would bo reduced according to tho length of his tenancy from the council. He was prepared to take debentures for the amount of his compensation. The Mayor recommended that compensation be on the basis of £OOOO for the land and £4500 for the building, tho division of this total between the lessee and tho Auckland Harbour Board as lessors to be arranged. Ho suggested that the matter of compensation for disturbance bo made the subject of a report and that on a settloment being arrived at Mr. Spedding bo offered tho tenancy of the portion of the building now occupied by him, tho council to deal direct with tho other tenants. This proposal was also adopted.
