CHAMPIONSHIP TITLES MATCHES POSTPONED (Received August 29, 5.5 p.m.) NEW YORK, Aug. 28 In the sfemi-finals of the United States lawn tennis championship doubles Frank Shields and Frankie Parker beat Ellsworth Vines and Keith Gledhill, the 1932 champions, 6—3, 6 —4, 3 —6, 3—(3, 6—2. G. M. Lott and L. 11. Stoeffen (United States) met Adrian Quist and Don Turnbull (Australia) in the othei\ semi-final. The Americans won the first set, 6—4, and the Australians- led 2—l in the second, when the light became so bad that it was decided to postpone the match until 1 to-morrow.
In the semi-finals of the combined doubles, Miss Elizabeth llyan and Vines (United States) met Miss Dorothy Pound and Perry (Great Britain). The Americans won the first set, 6 —2, and the British pair Avero leading 2 —l in the second, when rain stopped play.
PLAYING FOR POLAND
PRENN'S REQUEST REFUSED Tillies Coble LONDON. Aug. 28 The Warsaw correspondent of tho Times states that D. D. Prenn's request to represent Poland, on the grounds of his Polish birth, has been refusec 7 by the Polish Lawn Tennis Association; because hitherto he had refused to play for Poland. He had also abandoned his nationality to become a German in 1932. ' • Pronn was eliminated from the German Davis Cup team because of liis Jewish origin.
