CROSSING COLLISION

EXPRESS WRECKS CAR TWO OCCUPANTS INJURED ONE IN CRITICAL CONDITION YOUNG NORTHERN COUPLE [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Wednesday A serious railway crossing accident occurred near the Matainata railway station at noon to-day, when a collision occurred between a motor-car and tho north-bound Rotorua-Auckiand express. The two occupants of the car, Mr. James Milne, aged 27, Government herd-testing officer, of Whangarei, and his wife, Mrs. Jiuby Milne, aged 29, were injured. Mrs. Milne received injuries to tho head, face and back, a fractured right arm, and severe shock. Her condition is critical. Mr. Milne, who was driving the car, was less seriously injured, and as far as is known, no bones were, broken. His shoulder was severely bruised, and he received numerous abrasions. His condtion is not serious.

Mr. and Mrs. Milne were admitted to the Matamata Public Hospital. They were driving from Te Aroha to Kotorua, and were passing over the crossing between the Matamata cheese factory and the Matamata station when the accident occurred. The car was wrecked.

The young couple, who have been married only about two years, and have no children, were well and popularly known in the North. They left on Sunday last on annual vacation in a motor-car hired from Messrs. Smith and Woodman, of Whangarei.
