ART UNION APPLICANTS
SOME STRANGE REQUESTS The nature of some of the_ many applications for a share in art union proceeds received by the Government was commented on by tho Minister of Lands, Hon. E. A. Ransom, in Christchurch the other day, when ho suggested that tho Christchurch lloturned Soldiers' Association might by this means obtain some assistance toward its schemo for assisting prematurely agod men. '•Some extraordinary requests for art unions aro made from time to time," he said. "Those which aro for tho relief of unemployment or for public utilities havo first consideration." Ho considered tho association's scheme far more worthy of receiving aid through an art union than many of tho purposes for which this assistance was asked.
