MOCK NAVAL BATTLE
WARSHIPS AT RUSSELL DUNEDIN AND DIOMEDE PREPARING FOR MANOEUVRES [BY TELEGRAPH —SPECIAL REPORTER} RUSSELL, Tuesday The crfiisers of the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy, H.M.S. Dunedin and H.M.S. Diomede, arrived at Russell this afternoon. The flagship, H.M.S. Dunedin, carried out a two-hours' speed trial on the trip up the coast, during which she "passed H.M.S. Diomede at over 28 knots. She anchored at Russell at three o'clock, H.M.S. Diomede arriving an hour later.
Both cruisers are making preparations for the exercises with the Australian Squadron, and they .will leave Russell to-morrow afternoon for a mock battle. The four warships are expected to return to Russell after the manoeuvres on Friday night or Saturday morning.
The Fairey in.F seaplane from Hobsonvillo will arrive to-morrow to cooperate with the "New Zealand Squadron.
