WIDESPREAD RAIN
AUCKLAND PROVINCE BENEFIT TO PASTURES FINE WEATHER YESTERDAY There was a general improvement in the weather in the Auckland Province yesterday after tho widespread downpour on Monday. Correspondents of the Herald report that pastures have benefited greatly, warm conditions for tho most part following tho heavy rainfall. Tho heavy rain which fell in Hamilton on Monday abate*! in tho evening, and was followed by bright sunshine yesterday. Rain fell continuously for nearly 17 hours on Monday, 1.68 in. being recorded. Following an unusually long period of brilliant,aunshino and dry conditions for this time of the year, tho weather at Cambridge changed over the weekend and on Monday very heavy rain fell, tho total fall to 9 a.m. yesterday being 1.05 in., tho heaviest in any one day this year. A splendid spring is being experienced, and to date the dairy returns aro far in advance of those of tho corresponding period of last year.
Heavy rain, accompanied by squalls, fell in To Aroha and the district yesterday. Tho fall was one of the most continuous experienced this season and will be a welcome fillip to tho spring pastures. In the early morning "VVaiorongomai and adjacent areas were visited by a minor galo, but no damage was reported. Stormy conditions prevailed in the Whakatano district on Monday, very heavy rain falling in all parts. The rain was accompanied by a wind of gale force and although rivers are running very high, flooding is not expected. There was heavy rain at Opotiki all day on Monday and well into the night, the total fall being 1.74 in. Yesterday was sunny and the conditions will greatly assist tho growth of grass. Tho total rainfall at Tauranga from Sunday night until Monday evening Mas 1.46 in. There was bright sunshine yesterday and pastures will benefit considerably by tho downpour. Provided no more frosts occur there should soon be a good growth of grass. Heavy rain which had fallen at Te F.uiti for 36 hours ceased yesterday and the weather was reported to be clearing. Rivers throughout the northern King Country are running bank high. The main highway and most other roads are clear for traffic, and the lising flood waters will not block traffic if the' weather holds up permanently. No damage is reported to roads.
