EVEREST CLIMBERS

PRECIOUS HOURS LOST MIGHT HAVE CONQUERED LONDON,, Aug. 21 Messrs. J. Longland and Wyn Harris, the first of. the Mount Everest climbers to reach London, state that if Mr. L. R. Wager and Mr. Longland had reached the rocks beneath the cone at 9.30 a.m. instead of 12.30 p.m. there was a strong possibility that Everest would have been conquered. These precious three hours had been wasted in reconnaissance. The climbers had all lost two stone in weight but, though it was previously thought that their appetites would have almost disappeared above 23,000 ft., thanks -to scientific acclimatisation they had found a large number of foods definitely palatable.
