TREND OF PRICES
PRIMARY PRODUCE RATES CONFIDENCE IN AMERICA [by TELEGRAPH —OWN correspondent! WELLINGTON, Monday Tho opinion that there would shortly be a rise in the prices of primary produce was expressed by Mr. T. C. List, of New Plymouth,, who returned by the Maunganui to-day after a visit to America. He said that from conversations he had had with textile manufacturers and others, he was convinced that wool was coming into its own again. A substantial rise was also reported in hides. He had inspected the leather industry at Peabody and the opinion was generally held that the price of hides was due to increase. There was also an impression in America that tho butter market would bo firmer in future. Prices would not be as high as they were before 1929, but they would be much better than they were at present. "From information and advices I have received," said Mr. List, "I have every reason to think that buttor will get back to Is per lb. again. Thero has been a wonderful surge of confidonco in. America and that is going to have a far-reaching effect."
