MERCANTILE AUXILIARY

SAVORGNAN DE BRAZZA A reception in honour of the commander, officers and ship's company of the visiting French war sloop was held by the girls of the Mercantile Auxiliary Club, assisted by members of the Auckland French Club, in the Overseas League Rooms last evening. Bowls of seasonal flowers lent a touch of colour to the rooms while the draping of the Union Jack arid Tricolour added a more formaj tone. Suitable musical numbers were played during the arrival of the guests, who were received by Mrs. M. Ifwersen, president of the club, and the vice-presidents, Mrs. A. F. McArthur and Miss E. .lennings. The Rev. ,T. A. McKenzie (officer of the French Academy) conveyed to the guests the best wishes of those present for a happy stay in Auckland. The entertainment arranged for the occasion included a Maori song of welcome by Mrs. H. T. King, a monologue "Passionee du Cinema" by Mass Mary Pilkington and a song "Corame la Nuit" bv Miss Jean Reynolds. Mrs. Ifwersen wore a frock of heavy black lace with orchid spray; Mrs. A. F. McArthur was-in brown lace; and Miss E. Jennings wore a frock of mist blue satin.
