UNIVERSITY COUNCIL
CONTESTED ELECTIONS TWO CASES NEXT MONTH The unusual event of contested elections for seats on the council of the Auckland University College will occur in two instances next month. Three members are elected by members of the General Assembly resident in the Auckland Province, and none of these council members is a member of Parliament. Mr. S. I. Crook'fis, one of these representatives, who has been on the council since 1930, will retire next month and has been nominated for reelection. He will be opposed by Mr. H. G. It. Mason, M.P. for Auckland Suburbs. Votes may be recorded in person by the elector on June 22, or by document, which must reach the registrar, as returning officer, by the same date.
The terms of two of the four representatives elected by the graduates, Mr. H. J. D. Mahon and Dr. H. Ranston, also will expire next month. Both are seeking re-election, while Mr. W. H. Cocker has been nominated. The election will take place 011 June 29, and provision is made in this case also for the alternative forms of voting.
