BIRKENHEAD INTERESTS
The Birkenhead Borough Council met last evening. The Mayor, Mr. G. Mills, presided. A petition was received from ratepayers to have Beach Road permanently laid down, and £l2 was offered toward the cost of the wall. It was decided to proceed with the work with all available relief men. Tennyson Street also is to receive attention at a cost of £l2, and £2l for; the corner. , - j First-aid outfits are to be provided for Kauri Point Domain, Tui and Hinemoa Parks. „ , 3 The North Shore Water Board advised that, in view of the present position at Lake Pupuke, and proposals for supplementary supplies, the hoard considered the time had arrived for it to adopt a policy of taking over, at valuation, the assets of the three boroughs oi>erating pumping plants an the lake basin, and assume control ot the wholesale supply of water tor the four North Shore boroughs. &tops would be taken at an early date to. uLvo effect to this proposal.
