FREEZING DISPUTE
OFFICIAL TERMINATION CONFERENCE AT WEEK-EtfD Steps to call off officially the freezing works dispute, which has persisted since October last, are being considered this week-end by the Federation of Freezing Workers' Unions. Ballots hare been taken by the provincial unions on the question of terminating the dispute and returning to work. The ballot of the Auckland union members was taken last weekend and it is stated that there was a substantial majority in favour of returning to work. The president and secretary of the union, Messrs. H. Coulston and W. Sill, are at present in Wellington, where a conference of representatives of the provincial unions is to be held this week-end. It is stated that the conference, which meets as a council of action, will have definite authority to end the dispute. The result is expected to be known in Auckland early next week.
Killing operations, which have been, carried out by non-union labour, have slackened considerably at the worki in the Westfield district during tlia past month.
