"THE BRITON AT HOME"
NEW ZEALANDER'S BOOK Upon his return from a. visit to England as a member of the New Zealand delegation to the Imperial Press Conference of 1930, Mr. T. C. List published a few articles on his impressions and observations. So great was the interest they excited that more and more were demanded and now a selection has been issued in book form under the title of " The Briton at Home." The author speaks with great modesty about his work, but, without any desirs to flatter, it can be said that this collection of essays, disclosing extraordinarily high powers of observation and written with a charming fluency, is the kind of volume that alert New Zealanders have long required. Its scope is wide indeed. The first section, which begins with " The Unchanging Briton " and " The Art of Living," contains impressions embracing much knowledge of many London institutions and forces in national life. There are many studies of outstanding personalities, contributions on the public schools and great men they have nurtured and descriptions of journeys in England and Scotland. For a journalist who was not touring for the special purpose of gathering information for a book, Mr. List has been remarkably industrious. Thousands who have not had,his opportunity will appreciate this journey at second hand. The book is from the press of the Taranaki Daily News.
