SATISFACTORY TERMS

MR. COATES PLEASED AGREEMENT ON MAIN POINTS EARLY SESSION UNLIKELY [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Friday Tn an interview to-day concerning the trade treaty with Australia, the Minister of Customs, Mr. Coates, e.\pressed entire satisfaction with the manner iin which the negotiations had been carried out. It had not been possible for him to acquaint his colleagues in the Cabinet with all that had been done, but he would do so at an early date. The terms of the treaty v-'ould J)0 announced in Australia and New Zealand simultaneously. In reply to a question whether the Government would consider calling the New Zealand Parliament together specially to deal with the matter, Mr. Coates said such a course was unlikely. He did not think it would be wise to ask Parliament to meet before the time already stipulated. Mr. Coates said naturally there had been differences of opinion during the negotiations, but generally the work had been carried out in a satisfactory manner., and ho thought that when the terms were announced it would be found the agreement was largely acceptable. to both sides. Every endeavour had been made to reach an understanding on the points at issuo. It is understood agreement was icached on practically all tho main points, although it is likely one or two matters will be tho subject of further negotiation between tho two countries. It will be possible to carry out these without direct contact.
