EARLY MORNING FIRE
HOUSE AT TAKAPUNA OCCUPANTS' HURRIED EXIT Awakened by the crash of falling glass, the occupants of an eight-roomed, wooden dwelling at 25 Hurstmere Road, Takapuna, had to make a hurried exit in their night attire about three o'clock yesterday morryng when an outbreak of fire occurred.
Summoned by a passing motor-cyclist, tho Takapuna Fire Brigade was quickly on tho scene, and in about half-an-hour the outbreak was under control. Five rooms were gutted by the fire, while the lemaining three were damaged by water. The occupants of the house, Mrs. A. Arthur, Mr. H. Bradley, Miss M. Ashton and Miss P. Brooker, lost, most of their personal effects, which were packed, as the house was shortly to be vacated. A dramatic incident occurred when, although the flames had a good hold, Mrs. Arthur returned to get her purse. .She had to be assisted from the burning building through a window. The house is owned by Mr. R. S. Thompson, of 8 Fairfax Road, Epsom, Details of the insurance were not available last evening.
