RACING APPEALS
THE DARGAVILLE CASE HEARING FIXED FOR FRIDAY WOMAN OWNER'S POSITION Appeals in connection with the Dargaville disqualification case will be heard in Auckland next Friday by three appeal judges appointed by the president of the New Zealand Racing Conference. Hector Gray has appealed against his sentence of disqualification for life, R. A. Powell against his disqualification for three years, and Mrs. M. W. Powell, of Whangarei, wife of C. R. Powell, has appealed in respect of her horses. The case relates to the running of the President's Handicap on December 3, in which the places were filled by Alloy, Tetrarchate and Hannibal. Thespis, trained by Gray, and Bronze Tray, owned by R. A. Powell, ran unplaced. C. R. Powell, brother of R. A. Powell, was disqualified for life. Under the Rules of Racing any horse owned by the wife of a person undergoing a period of disqualification is prohibited from being trained upon any racecourse or training track, and is ineligible to be entered for, or to start in, any race. It is in regard to this provision that Mrs. Powell has appealed.
