LINESMAN KILLED
FALL WHEN UNCONSCIOUS CONTACT WITH LIVE WIBES INJURIES TO HEAD AND ARM [by TELEGRAPH— PRESS association] CHRISTCHURCH, "Wednesday A railway linesman, Mr. John Beatty, married, aged 45, died this evening from injuries and shock received when he came into contact with live wires while repairing the overhead transmission gear on the Lyttelton-Christchurch line at Woolston this morning. Mr. Beatty was attending to an insulator when he received a shock of 1500 volts. He was freed from the wires, but the unconscious man fell heavily to the ground and, in addition to severe shock, received serious injuries to the head and an arm. Mr. Beatty was admitted to hospital, but did not regain consciousness, and died at 6.30 p.m.
