CARNIVAL ON WAIKATO

A VARIED PROGRAMME EXCITING ROWING CONTESTS AUCKLANDERS* SUCCESSES [VJtOM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT] HAMILTON, Monday The annual regatta of tho Hamilton Regatta and Carnival Association was held to-day in fine weather. There was an attendance of about 3000. Most of the crowd was assembled on Ferry Bank, where the officials were stationed and where most of the events finished.

Tho programme was a varied one and in addition to rowing races there were canoe events, sports for children, first-aid competitions and wrestling* contests, whileband music, was supplied by the Hamilton Municipal Band and tho South Auckland Caledonian Society's pipe band. There were large entries in many of the rowing events, but ii(.tle delay occurred in (starling.

Increased interest in canoeing was shown and the parade of 27 canoes, painted in bright colours, made a fine show on the river. Between the rowing events novelty competitions provided en

A second start was made and West End got tho load. Six crews had a great tussle for second place. "West End held its position in. the lead and tho two Hamilton crews fought it out for second and third places. Won by a length and a-half, with half a length separating second and third.
