Aeroplanes ijheaper than motor-cars will be available in 1953, says the aviation expert of the Daily Express, lie estimates that 150,000 young men and women woul-1 bo flying if aeroplanes were as cheap ae motor-cars. The. engine for a light aircraft costs £3OO, whereas :i motor-cycle engine could be fitted for £25.

Machines already have been tested which could be marketed by mass production at probably £IOO. Admittedly they would not. be suitable for long distance flying, but they would be ideal for short business and pleasure journeys. Five firms are developing aircraft at prices ranging from £l5O to £3lO. compared with £550 for the cheapest at present marketed.
