WATCHING RETAIL PRICES
By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Efeccived November 24, 6.5 p.m.) LONDON. Nov. 23 The Minister of Agriculture, Major W. E. Elliot, announced in the House of Commons to-day that the Government had appointed a Meat Reorganisation Commission to deal with the question of fat stock. Colonel G. R. Lane-Fox, formerly Secretary for Mines, and a member of tho Indian Statutory Commission, would bo the chairman.
Major Elliot added that a committee of representatives of tho meat trade was being appointed to watch the problem of retail prices in connection with tho operation of the schemes for the restriction of
supplies. This committee would be chosen from representatives of all the bodies engaged in handling meat, including the co-operative stores and big and little shops. The Marquess of Linlithgow would be the independent chairman.
It was desirable that the interests of {Tie consumer should be kept closely in fjont of the picture, and the committee would do that. The Government was determined to grapple with the problem of prices, which it believed was the fundamental problem to-day.
