TEST TENNIS
AUSTRALIA V. AMERICA
VISITORS' GOOD START
(Received November 21, 10.35 p.m.) BRISBANE. Nov. 24
A tennis test match, Australia versus America, was begun to-day at Brisbane. In the singles Gledhill (America) defeated Spronle, 6—4, 6—4; Allison (America) defeated Moon, 12—10, 6—l; Van Byn (America) defeated McGrath, 6—3, 5—7, 6-3.
In the doubles Vines and Gledhill played Moon and Sproule. The scores are: 6—4, I—6 and 5—5 unfinished.
Australia made a bail start by losing all three singles. The play throughout was of a high order, the Americans showing better form all round.
The game between Allison arid Moon provided many thrills. Moon in the early Stages played well, but 'later lie faded away and fought little. McGrath gave the Australian supporters heart by taking a set from Van Ryn but tho American was too severe in the third set.
Tho Gledhill-Sproule match was more notable for the accuracy of both players than for brilliancy.
When tho bad light caused the adjournment of the doubles the Australians were definitely on top with Sproule outstanding. Vines at times revealed great speed but generally seemed to be reserving himself.
