DUNEDIN, Thursday

The Forbury Park Trotting Club's meeting was opened to-day in showery weather which affected the attendance and also slowed down the track for the first few races. However, the sun soon came out brightly and the course rapidly improved. During the afternoon Harold Logan paced a mile trial in 2m 5 l-ss. this being 4-5s outside his own record of last season. Todd Lonzia lowered the existing New Zealand mile trotting record, covering the distance in 2m 11 l-ss, beating Revenuo's record by 3-sb.

The totalisator handled £'13,421, compared with £13.091 on the first day last year. Results were:—

LONDON, Nov. 23 Gordon Richards established a flat racing record for the present century by riding his 188 th winner this season, beating Frank Wootton's 1911 achievement of 187 successes.

CHRISTCHURCII, Thursday

Advice was received in Christchurch today of the death from injuries of tlie three-year-old gelding Early Cup, who was recently taken by C. Emerson to Sydney and sold there for 55 guineas. After developing lameness in a, race Early Cup was running on the outside of a field at Rosebery on November 12, and fell, receiving a broken shoulder. Early Cup was raced a few times at the pony races by his new owner, and three weeks ago won an event at Victoria Park. He was bred at Elderslie for his previous owner, Mr. R. J. Murphy, who has a younger brother to him named Acceptable at present in Emerson'* etable At Riccartoa.
