ELLERSLIE TRAINING

SMART GALLOPS RECORDED

SMART FIVE BY ECHO SONG

KARANGAPAI'S SOLID SIX

by archer

The tracks at Ellerslie yesterday were fast and some smart gallops were recorded by horses with engagements at the Takapuna meeting to morrow. The best efforts were recorded on the course proper, where the flags were out 25ft.. and tho fastest trials wero done by Echo Song, who defeated Marching Song over five furlongs. Karangapai and Deputy Ruler. On the course proper Hawthorn (Mcßne). On Approval (Duncan) and Bright Flower (Clarke) ran five furlongs in I.G. They ran the first two in 25 l-ss. but slowed up in the final stages and were all going comfortably at the end.

The Kilbroney—Miss Hazel gelding (Parsons) and Wee Pat (Cammick) sprinted three furlongs in 39 l-ss. They have both brightened up in the past few weeks and Wee Pat seems to be thriving better than formerly.

Karangapai (Chaplin) was responsible for a pleasing effort in running six furlongs in 1.16 3-5. Ho travelled well all- the w.-uv to run the first, two furlongs in 26 l-os and the last half-mile in 50 2-ss. Karangapai is always a free worker, but his lateGt track work has been good and he should win soon.

Deputy Ruler (Parsons) finished a counlo of lengths clear of Tetrarchale (Cammick) at tho end of a smartly-run half-mile in 49 3-ss. Deputy Ruler seems to be improving with each gallop and Tetrarchate, who was not bustled at the end. is showing signs of returning to form and should bo worth watching on the country circuit.

Mile by Psychologist Echo Song (Chaolin) easily defeated Marching Song (McGovern) over fivo furlongs in 1.2 3-5, which was a smart gallop for a novice. Sho kept in close to tho ilasrs. but had a good weight up and did it fairlv well after running tho first two in 25 l-ss. If Echo Song repeats the effort in public sho 'should have moro than an outsido chance with the minimum in the Ponui Handicap to-morrow.

Psychologist (Fergus) covered a mile in 1.50 4-5. He went fast over the first three furlongs in 35 3-ss, but was under a strong pull for the remainder of the journey. Psychologist is in good nick and should perform 6olidly in his coming engagements.

Roman Mascot (McTavish), who was worked away from Ellerslie on Tuesday, was timed to run five furlongs in 1.8 3-5. She was not doing her best at any stage and could have recorded much better time. Roman Mascot should have an excellent opportunity to open her winning account in the Melrose Maiden Handicap to-morrow. Courthaven (E. Manson). Zane Grev (Fuller) and Ornamental (Lardner) were associated over six furlongs in 1.22 1-5. Courthaven is an improved filly who mav show some form at any time now. Sho is not exactly the type one would expect to shine on a course like Takapuna, as she has not begun well in her previous races. However, if ehe happens to jump out smartly, she will not be disgraced in the Melrose Maiden Handicap.

Gay Cockade's Round Gay Cockado (Mcßae) encompassed n round in 2.7 2-5. running the last seven furlongs in 1.33 4-5 and the last half-mile in 53 4-ss. It was a solid piece of work and he was running on soundly at the end. Gay Cockade is in fine trim for his Alison Cup engagement, but he disappointed too often for his prospects to be regarded with enthusiasm. . Demylus (McTavisli) was kicked out at the finish to complete five furlongs in X 5 4-5. He was slow over the first furlong, which took 14 3-ss. so that he ran the last half-milo in 51 l-ss. . On the No. 2 grass Hispania (Duncan), after covering the first two furlongs in 24 3-ss. finished up five furlongs in 1.5 1-J-Hispania has a nice turn of speed, but. as she had everything in her favour to make time, her effort was just fair. Hampton Park (Duncan) easily ran five furlongs in 1.5 3-5. while Wee Musk did three furlongs in 46 3-ss. and Jewelled Girdle (Fergus) strode over six furlongs in 1 Cln l the tan Full Measure and Hunting March sprinted half a mile in 52 (-ss. and Supreme Ruler (Parsons) completed serviceable work by running the same distance in 53 Royal Gallant (McGovern) was timed to run half a mile in 53 2-ss. This consistent hack has not been overtaxed since racing at "VVhnngarei. but he is in g.ood trim for nis engagements nt Takapuna. where he is engaged in both the Spring Hack Handicap and the Takapuna Plate to-morrow. Imamint Sprints Imamint (Duncan) went freely over five furlongs in 1.5 3-5. running the last haltmile in 52 2-ss. She seems none the worse for her exertions at Te Rapa, but she is one who would appreciate an easing of track conditions, as she likes the sting out of the ground. ... r i Tarporlev (Horne) finished up a useful task with five furlongs in 1.6 3-5 He strides out with plenty of freedom when working on the tan, but is almost invariably sore afterwards, and how he will stand the strain of another race on a hard track remains to be seen. It is a pity Tarporley is not thoroughly sound, as he is a solid performer, of whom the best has not yet been Idea was allotted steady pacing, and Black Songster sprinted three furlongs in 3is Cvnthia N. encompassed a round in 2 1 and o hers to perform were Ruling King. Tahae Mea. ee Prince and B Vandyke was schooled.over four hurdles He rapped the first fairly hard, hut imnroved as he went on, and mnined 52. iTst twc a -iAT^^P^rTe^ he a Ts brought to Ellerslie occasionally to school.
