TAKAPUNA RACES

' FIRST OF VISITORS

LADY QUEX ARRIVES

SCRATCHING OF ANTIQUE

RIDING engagements

A number of visiting horses have arrived at Devonport for the Takapuna Jockey Club's meeting, which opens to-morrow, and the arrivals include Lady Quex, from New Plymouth, Volimond and Munga"toon, who came on without returning to Te Aroha after racing at Te Rapa, and Alloy and British, Columbia, from Kaitaia. Another large contingent is expected today when most, of the candidates from country stables are expected to put in an appearance.

Antique was scratched for all engagements at 3.30 p.m. yesterday and Pelagia has been scratched for the Cambria Handicap.

The five shillings totalisator will again he in operation in the terrace enclosure, and the club has decided to pay two dividends in fields of five instead of six as

formerly. An alteration in the order of running has been made owing to the small field in the Cheltenham Handicap. This lace, which was the last on to-morrow's programme, will now be the second, and the Tiri High-weight Handicap will be run as the seventh race instead of the second. The complete order is: Melrose Maiden Handicap, Cheltenham Handicap, Spring Hack Handicap, Alison Cup, Cambria Handicap, Takapuna Plate, Tiri Highweight Handicap, Ponui Handicap.

Additional riding engagements announced for the first day include: — R. W. McTavish. —Mungatoon, Voli mond, Demylus. L. Dulieu. —Senorita. G. W. Duncan. —Valpai.

Tutchen will leave to-morrow for the Takapuna meeting / with Senorita. Ruby Dawn, Kahau and SubEditor. . Kahau will be improved for his race at the local meeting, in which he finished a good fourth, and his prospects in the Mel- '# xose Handicap, when he will be ri<Tden by A. Tinker, must be seriously considered. 'Ruby Dawn was in need of a race at the Te Rapa meeting and should be sharpened up as a result of her eSorts last weekend She is coming along nicely and is /, handily placed with 8.2 in the Spring Hack Handicap, in which she will be ridden by

,G. Connor. Aftes her excellent performance in finishing a close fourth in the Great .Northern Guineas. Senorita appeared almost sure to win a race at the local meeting but. the best she could do was to run third in a hack event on the first day. However she should be by no means discarded and _ is likely to make amends at Takapuna. The Ponui Handicap, instead of the TTap^ pu ™* Plate, will probably be chosen for her on Saturday. G. Connor will have the to 0" " 1-Sub-Editor's displays on the flat at the recent Waikato meeting were not rxuticularly impressive, but the company he will meet in the High-Weight Handica pon Saturday is not so strong.
