WORK OF Y.M.C.A.

HIGH STANDARD REACHED NEW OFFICERS ELECTED ' "Y.M.C.A. work in Auckland has never been of a higher standard than it is today," said the retiring president of the Auckland Young Men's Christian Association, Mr. C. H. Furness, in commenting on the report at the annual meeting last evening. The report and balancersheet, which were adopted, were published in yesterday's Herat.d. In the history of the association there had probably been no more trying period than the past four years, Mr. Furness said. The fact that that period had been passed successfully was a matter for satisfaction. Although reduction in expenditure had been necessary for the continued existence of the association, the main activities had not been curtailed in the least, and useful service was still being performed among all classes of the community.

Both Mr. Furness and the new president, Mr. W. H. Fountain, paid tribute to the excellent work of the staff, under Mr. V. T. Drew, and the enthusiastic band of voluntary helpers. Members of the staff had volunteered to accept reductions in salary. The following officers were elected: — President, Mr. W. H. Fountain; vicepresidents, Messrs. C. H. Furness, J. Ambury and D. Henry; honorary treasurer, Mr. R. H. Horseley; honorary assistant-treasurer, Mr. W. C. Wilson; honorary secretary, Mr. J. G. Smith; vacancies on directorate, Messrs. A. T. Dow, B. B. Hooper, C. A. Whitney and L. Kendall.

After the installation of Mr. Fountain as president he was given a rousing weleome by boy members of the association, who presented Mrs. Fountain with a bouquet. Lantern slides, illustrating the work of the association, were shown, with comments by Mr. Drew, and a short musical programme was given.
