* BOY CYCLIST INJURED
A plea of guilty to a charge of being intoxicated while in charge of a motorcar in Dominion Road on November 19 was entered by George Henry Mayn (Mr. Hart), poultry farmer, aged 55, when he appeared before Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M., in the Police Court yesterday.
Detective-Sergeant Kelly said a boy who was riding a bicycle ahead of accused's car had been struck by the car, the accident taking place in the evening. The boy suffered a fracture of a leg, and was admitted to the Auckland Hospital There tiad been a rear reflector on th<> cycle. There was no doubt that the accused was under the influence of liquor and was not in a fit state to drive the car. Counsel suggested that the accident might not have happened but for the erratic way in which the boy rode the cycle. The accident could have happened to the most sober motorist, and the accused was only a moderate drinker. Evidence was given by Constable Belcher that he had known accused for more than seven years, and had not seen him under the influence of liquor. Witness said the accused did not complain, when he was arrested, that the boy rode erraticalAccused was fined £2O, in default sixweeks' imprisonment, and his driver s licence was cancelled for six months.
