Colonel F. Symon, director of artillery., arrived by the express yesterday morning. He is going to tlie artillery camp at Roto; rua.

Mr. J. S. Hunter, Commissioner of Transport, arrived from Wellington by motor-car yesterday afternoon. He is at the Station Hotel.

Major H. Blake' Taylor, of India, leffc by the Rotorua express yesterday morning for Frankton. He will visit Waitomo before going ta Rotorua.

Colonel F. W. "W. Dawson, medical officer of health in Christchurch, arrived by the express yesterday morning to relieve Dr. J. Boyd, who is on sick leave.:

Surgeon-Lieutenant-Commander R. B. McVicker, of H.M.S. Veronica, whose term on the New Zealand station is expiring, will be relieved shortly by Sur-geon-Lieutenant H. G. Wells.

Mi-. E. R. N. Russell, of Auckland, arrived at Wellington by the Rangitane yesterday afternoon on his return from a tour abroad. He was accompanied by Mrs. Russell and their two daughters.

The Rev. E. E. Smith, of Spreydon,Christchurch, has receiycd a unanimous call from the Royal Oak Baptist Church. Mr. Smith has served the Linwood and Spreydon Churches in Christchurch for over 13 years.

Mr. Oliver Nicholson, chairman of directors of the Bank of New Zealand, left for Wellington last evening to attend a mepiing of directors to discuss the exchange question. Sir George Elliot, a director of the bank, is already in Wellington.

Mr. A. P. Wilson, who recently resigned his position as chief stipendiary steward to the New Zealand Racing Conference and accepted an engagement as chairman of stipendiary stewards for the Queensland Turf Club in Brisbane, will leave for Sydney by the Marama to-day.

Mr. W. L. Holland, the New Zealand , member of the Secretariat of the Institute of Pacific Relations at Honolulu, has been appointed research secretary in succession to Dr. J. B. Condliffe. Mr. Holland has received a Rockefeller Fellowship and will be studving at Cambridge University until July, 1933.

Mr. 0. J. Tunks, Auckland district commissioner for the St. John Ambulance Brigade, left last evening for Hamilton, He was accompanied by Corps-Officers C, Lindesay and G. T. Patterson, and Mr. S. E. Langstonc. manager and transportofficer. The annual inspection will be made of the Hamilton, Frankton Junction and Morrinsville divisions of the brigade.
