COLLAPSE IN CHURCH

FORMER PREACHER'S DEATH

ADDRESS AT CELEBRATIONS

[BY telegraph—OWN correspondent]

PALMERSTON NORTH, Tuesday

During the progress of the jubilee celebrations at the Norsewood Methodist Church last evening, the death of an old member of the church occurred with tragic suddenness. The Rev. J. D. McArthur had concluded his address of congratulation to the district, and Mr. Charles Fredericksen, of Takapau, an old local preacher in the circuit, and son of the first preacher in the district, commenced to recount some of his early experiences of pioneer preaching. He was making an impressive declaration of his faith in the power of the Gospel when he collapsed and died almost, immediately. Medical aid was summoned from Dannevirke, but Mr. Fredericksen, who was aged about 80, was beyond assistance. The were not continued further, and the singing of a hymn concluded the evening.
