The Whangarei Borough Council at its meeting last evening received a letter from the Canterbury Progress League asking the council's endorsement of the reso. lutions of the conference of Canterbury local bodies and motoring organisations disagreeing with the National Expenditure Commission's recommendation that the Highways Fund should be abolished. The council passed a resolution urging upon the Government that the Highways Fund should be maintained, and that, at the earliest possible date, all special motor taxation should be paid into that fund.
