LONG SERVICE REWARDED
KARANGAHAPE ROAD SOCIETY
PRESENTATION TO MR. BENNETT
A recognition of the 13 years' service given by Mr. M. J. Bennett as president of the Karangahape Road Business Promotion Society was made at yesterday's luncheon, which was the last meeting of the society for the year. Tho luncheon, which was held in the Karo Tea Rooms, was attended by a large gathering of members, Mr. L. O'Malley, the society's new president, being chairman. " It will seem strange for a long time to think of the society without thinking of Mr. Bennett as chairman," said Mr. E. E. Kitchener, vice-president, in making the presentation of a handsome clock to Mr. and Mrs. Bennett. In all his long service for the society, Mr. Bennett had proved himself unhesitatingly loyal and he had done more than any other man in furthering the interests of "The Road." In reply, Mr. Bennett thanked the members very sincerely for the honour they had given him. He would always take a keen interest in the society, but he had felt that it was time for younger men to come forward. He referred to the great progress made by Karangahape Road since he had first taken office. "The street has been practically rebuilt in that time," he said. There was hardly a building that had not been improved or replaced. In conclusion, Mr. Bennett struck an optimistic note for the future.
