CLOUDY AND UNSETTLED

Vincent Inst evening:— Westerly depressions are crossing the Sooth Island in quick succession, while barometric pressure remains relatively high in the north. Tropical influences are, however, developing north-westward of the Dominion. Cloudy and unsettled weather is indicated, with a scattered rainfall. Variable winds, northerly to north-easter-lies, moderate to strong, prevailing and increasing. Seas becoming rough and increasing generally. Local outlook: Cloudy and unsettled, with showers. GOVERNMENT REPORT

The Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows: —A moderate anticyclone now covers New Zealand, with its centre over the northern portion. An extensive depression is located over southeastern Australia. Indications are for westerly to northerly winds, moderate generally, but freshening in and south of Cook Strait. Seas rather rough about Cook and Foveaux Straits, elsewhere moderate. In the eastern Tasman Sea, freshening northerly winds. Seas moderate, hut later rising in the southern portion. The weather will be fair, warm and hazy for the most part, but some showers about Foveaux Strait and later conditions becoming unsettled again in districts with a westerly aspect.
